Mysteries abound in the study of past conflicts.

One of these concerns the British General known as BOBS or more formally Frederick Sleigh Roberts
Field Marshal Lord Roberts of Kandahar, V.C.,
K.G., K.P., G.C.B., O.M., G.C.S.I., G.C.I.E.

His full biography is here and since he died in France in the early days of WW1 he`s a worthy mystery to start with.

His life is recounted at this link  http://www.pinetreeweb.com/roberts-bio.htm and its clear he was one of the most famous soldiers of the Victorian era.

A reader has sent in these two pictures that may be Memorial Pins (click each one for a full size image.)

Clue

Roberts was a fond supporter of the Gurhka Regiments

Might this pin have come from Afghanistan, as a result of his service in the Boer War or after his demise in 1914? Email us at Battalion HQ below!!!
